Comments are offered for this article in the Denver Gazette titled, Colorado insurance rates will increase more than three times the rate of inflation in 2025.
Here we go again—Colorado health insurance premiums are set to jump nearly 10% in 2024, piling onto the endless list of ways the Polis administration and Biden’s policies are making life here unbearably expensive. Health insurance isn’t just a luxury—thanks to these clowns, it’s a mandatory financial ball-and-chain strapped to every Coloradan’s wallet. But hey, don’t worry—the state says it could have been worse. Gee, thanks for that comforting nugget, Jared! I feel so much better knowing my premiums aren’t skyrocketing as high as the original 20% requested by insurers.
The state government is trying to spin this shitstorm like they’re doing us a favor, boasting about how “reinsurance programs” are saving us millions. But let’s not kid ourselves: even with subsidies, premiums are going up, and the rest of us are stuck paying through the nose to fund bloated programs and bail out insurers. Small businesses? Your group plans are also set to rise. Denver Health’s premiums alone are shooting up nearly 20%, just to remind you how affordable the so-called “Colorado Option” really isn’t.
Here’s the kicker—half of Coloradans get their health insurance through work, so naturally, they’re seeing hikes too. And if you’re part of the individual market? Congrats, you just hit the jackpot of unaffordability. How the hell are people supposed to afford this shit when rent and groceries are already through the roof? Polis loves to slap his name on these policies, but at this rate, he should rename the Colorado Option to the “Colorado Fuck-You-Can’t-Afford-This Plan.”
And Biden? He’s right there in the mix, playing the same game. Federal funding keeps these state-level boondoggles afloat, but the cost burden just gets shuffled down to us suckers. It’s like getting kicked in the teeth by both state and federal government while they smile and tell you they’re saving you money.
If Democrats really gave a damn about affordability, they’d stop mandating bloated policies no one asked for and quit piling on more coverage requirements. Instead, they pat themselves on the back for “bending the cost curve” while Colorado families bend over backward trying to keep up. At this point, the only thing bending is our will to stay here.
So thank you, Jared Polis and Joe Biden, for continuing to turn Colorado into a nightmare of unaffordability. Health insurance is supposed to protect people—not bankrupt them. If this keeps up, the only thing more expensive than health care will be the U-Haul rental out of this damn state.
